A Tender Romance That Falters on Logic

Ek Din - movie review

Aamir Khan’s latest production Ek Din introduces his son Junaid Khan in the lead, opposite acclaimed South Indian actress Sai Pallavi, making her Hindi film debut. The film is adapted from the Thai drama One Day and attempts to weave a delicate love story around memory, longing and chance encounters.

Junaid Khan plays a shy office employee – Dino who quietly falls for his colleague Meera (Sai Pallavi). His hesitance keeps him from confessing, while Pallavi is already entangled with her boss, portrayed by Kunal Kapoor in a layered villainous role. A planned picnic trip takes an unexpected turn when Pallavi suffers partial amnesia. Circumstances leave her and Junaid together for a single day, and the film explores how that fleeting time reshapes their bond.

Performances of Ek Din

Junaid Khan delivers a convincing portrayal of an introvert, showing promise in his first major outing. Sai Pallavi is effortlessly natural, bringing warmth and sincerity to her role. Kunal Kapoor stands out as the manipulative boss, adding tension to the otherwise tender narrative.

Supporting actors Kavin Dave and Pragati Mishra add texture, while the screenplay by Sneha Desai and Spandan Mishra, directed by Sunil Pandey, keeps the film grounded in simplicity.

The film’s strongest asset is its visual treatment of Japan. Scenic landscapes and cultural details are showcased so beautifully that it feels like a tourism campaign. The romance, though tender, suffers from lapses in logic—particularly Pallavi’s sudden memory loss, which strains believability.

With a running time of 125 minutes, Ek Din is a gentle, slow‑burn romance that appeals to audiences who prefer simplicity over spectacle. However, its clash with bigger releases and lack of novelty may limit its reach. Sai Pallavi shines and Junaid impresses. I would recommend it only for those who are looking for some different content. It is surely not for the masses.
